Michael Stuart was born in Georgetown, Guyana, and moved to the United States with his wife. “It took a lot of adjusting. The culture is different and the environment is different,” Stuart recalled.” I come from a kind of country-area and here it’s pretty urban, but I adjusted quickly.”

Stuart said he was always interested in the field of pharmacy. “I really had a love for the sciences and I wanted to make that love into something functional so I could help people,” recalled Stuart who lives with his wife in Jamaica, Queens. When it came to choosing a pharmacy school, Stuart said that TCOP stood out from all his options.

“I liked that Touro caters to a diverse group of students and it is in area where there is a lot of diversity,” said Stuart. “I knew that though I came from a foreign background I would be readily accepted. I also liked that Touro is heavy both on the didactic part of our education and the experiential part of our education; both sides are emphasized."

Stuart said he can see himself working in drug development, but is also interested in working as part of a team in a hospital.

Never Give Up: “I was close to switching careers because of the criticism I faced and I was very close to abandoning my dream job but I decided I wasn’t going to let people talk me out of something I loved. I'm here, despite the odds."
