Held at the Alhambra Ballroom in Harlem, the white coat ceremony marks the beginning of the journey for Touro College of Pharmacy students. 103 students were welcomed as “P1” students (first year pharmacy students) and received their white coats. Together they took the Pledge of Professionalism led by Dean Dutta, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, confirming their commitment to becoming professional practitioners of pharmacy. Welcome, Class of 2017!
At sixteen, Mehranian immigrated to the United States with her family from Tehran, Iran. With a limited grasp of English, her teachers told her it was almost impossible for her to graduate high school at the age of eighteen. Mehranian didn’t agree. She enrolled in night school to learn English while completing her high school curriculum.
Like molecular theory itself, becoming a scientist involves starting with germs of knowledge and watching that expertise grow. Lander College for Women 2013 graduate and current Touro College of Pharmacy Class of 2017 student Elisheva Swartz is midway through her development from curious undergraduate to future pharmacist. Her mission is to research ardently and consume theory about what ails and rehabilitates human beings and, one day, put that all into practice. “It’s exhilarating," she says. "I\'m spending my time learning about how the physical world is built."
