This year’s Walmart/Sam’s Club Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) National Diabetes Health Fair was a rousing success, as usual. Fourteen student volunteers from Touro College of Pharmacy, supervised by faculty preceptor Dr. Vinnie Dam, performed blood pressure screenings and medication therapy reviews for approximately 60 patients at the Sam’s Club in Secaucus, New Jersey. Dr. Marla Bowie and Dr. Deji Akinboye, two TCOP alumni (now practicing pharmacists) also joined to help proctor the event.

On March 19, six Touro College of Pharmacy (TCOP) students spent an afternoon volunteering at the Community Kitchen & Food Pantry of West Harlem, preparing and serving fresh, homemade meals to approximately 300 low-income and/or homeless Harlem residents. The event was organized by Pharmacists for Public Health (PPH), a student organization that coordinates volunteering events twice a month.

Touro College of Pharmacy students, faculty, and staff turned out at Riverbank State Park in upper Manhattan recently to help seniors living in city housing with medication and health counseling.  A total of 34 Touro volunteers spent a beautiful fall day at a medical pavilion in the park providing blood pressure, blood glucose, and bone density screenings - along with counseling on medication management - to some 270 seniors.
