This past spring, Touro College of Pharmacy implemented its Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention and Education Program (PDAPEP). Prompted by high rates of prescription drug abuse among teens in Staten Island, PDAPEP is part of New York Senator Charles Schumer’s initiative to combat prescription drug abuse. Along with pharmacy students of Long Island University and St. John’s University, TCoP students visit select Staten Island high schools to promote the dangers of prescription drug abuse.

On March 19, six Touro College of Pharmacy (TCOP) students spent an afternoon volunteering at the Community Kitchen & Food Pantry of West Harlem, preparing and serving fresh, homemade meals to approximately 300 low-income and/or homeless Harlem residents. The event was organized by Pharmacists for Public Health (PPH), a student organization that coordinates volunteering events twice a month.

This past Saturday, Pharmacists for Public Health (PPH) at the Touro College of Pharmacy (TCOP) teamed up with the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM)-Harlem to perform blood-pressure screenings and brown-bag medication reviews at the third annual Harlem Healthy Soul Festival hosted by the Apollo Theater. The festival, which offered live entertainment, informative exhibits, and presentations by celebrities, doctors and health experts including TouroCOM\'s own Dr. John M. Palmer and Dr. Jeff Gardere, offered families the opportunity to learn about resources that foster active and healthy lifestyles.
