Last week, over 200 P1 through P4 students and faculty of Touro College of Pharmacy (TCOP) merrily celebrated the end of their academic year at a semiformal held at Colbeh Restaurant in Manhattan. Besides a five-course Mediterranean-style buffet dinner (including Persian gondi, dolmeh, three types of kebab, three types of rice, and more), students enjoyed a sushi bar, open drinks bar, and an elaborate cake for the graduating class of 2015. Suits and dresses replaced the usual white coats as student pharmacists and faculty ate, drank, and danced the night away!

Touro College of Pharmacy students, faculty, and staff turned out at Riverbank State Park in upper Manhattan recently to help seniors living in city housing with medication and health counseling.  A total of 34 Touro volunteers spent a beautiful fall day at a medical pavilion in the park providing blood pressure, blood glucose, and bone density screenings - along with counseling on medication management - to some 270 seniors.

Like molecular theory itself, becoming a scientist involves starting with germs of knowledge and watching that expertise grow. Lander College for Women 2013 graduate and current Touro College of Pharmacy Class of 2017 student Elisheva Swartz is midway through her development from curious undergraduate to future pharmacist. Her mission is to research ardently and consume theory about what ails and rehabilitates human beings and, one day, put that all into practice. “It’s exhilarating," she says. "I\'m spending my time learning about how the physical world is built."

The 2014 outbreak of Ebola in West Africa, the most widespread in the history of the virus, has evolved into one of the gravest and most urgent medical concerns of our time. At Touro’s Colleges of Pharmacy (TCOP) and Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM), professors are sharing with students their knowledge of and experiences with this virus, both clinically and via secondary research. Their goal? To publicize the importance of identifying precautions and seeking treatments for infectious diseases such as Ebola, and to inspire future healthcare leaders to pursue research in the field.
