Two P4 Touro College of Pharmacy (TCOP) students put their pharmacy training to use volunteering for a week this summer in Haiti. Students Sanjay KC and Olga Rashchupkina, who just finished their third year of pharmacy school, joined TCOP’s Dr. Roopali Sharma on a National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians (NOAH) NY mission to the country with 100 other medical and non-medical volunteers.
This year’s Walmart/Sam’s Club Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) National Diabetes Health Fair was a rousing success, as usual. Fourteen student volunteers from Touro College of Pharmacy, supervised by faculty preceptor Dr. Vinnie Dam, performed blood pressure screenings and medication therapy reviews for approximately 60 patients at the Sam’s Club in Secaucus, New Jersey. Dr. Marla Bowie and Dr. Deji Akinboye, two TCOP alumni (now practicing pharmacists) also joined to help proctor the event.
On March 19, six Touro College of Pharmacy (TCOP) students spent an afternoon volunteering at the Community Kitchen & Food Pantry of West Harlem, preparing and serving fresh, homemade meals to approximately 300 low-income and/or homeless Harlem residents. The event was organized by Pharmacists for Public Health (PPH), a student organization that coordinates volunteering events twice a month.
Touro College of Pharmacy (TCOP) Associate Professor Dr. Mary Choy was recently honored by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA)’s Immunization Champion Awards in the category of Individual Practitioner.
