Biography

Dr. Jeger’s broad-based experience in higher education encompasses diverse teaching, research, and leadership roles. He joined TCOP following a distinguished 40-year career at the New York Institute of Technology, over 30-years of which were at its College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) in Old Westbury, NY. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Dean for Academic Outreach and Site Development. His previous roles at NYITCOM include Associate Dean of Clinical Education; Director of Health Psychology; and Director of the Educational Development Resource Unit. 

He also held the rank of Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, and served as a faculty facilitator in NYITCOM’s problem-based medical school curriculum track. His teaching at the medical school level included courses on human diversity, and behavioral medicine. He provided expertise and presentations to faculty and hospital administrators on effective communication and leadership.

In the realm of student services, Dr. Jeger’s experience includes establishment of a student advisement/mentoring system – which integrated academic resources, psychological supports and career advisement.  He personally served as the school-wide mentor for “high-risk” students, was a faculty advisor to student organizations, led community outreach programs, and established educational affiliations for clinical sites. For over 20-years, he directed the entire clinical clerkship program for 600, 3rd and 4th year medical students – ultimately overseeing  5,000 annual clerkship  assignments to over 40 affiliated sites, in addition to vetting and appointing over 1,900 preceptors/clinical supervisors.

On a personal note, Dr. Jeger resides with his wife, Rochelle, in Lawrence.  Born to parents of Holocaust survivors in Sighet, Romania, English is his 5th language.  The Jegers are blessed with four children, and numerous grandchildren.  Dr. Jeger’s religious education included Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim in Manhattan and Mesivta Torah Vodaath in Brooklyn.  In addition to his professional commitments and rich family life, Dr. Jeger has been leading a weekly study group on classical and contemporary Jewish thought at Congregation Bais Avrohom Zev of Lawrence during the past 16 years.  Some of his original essays have been published on-line at www.torah.org
