Regine Russell begins TCOP with an automatic study partner: her identical twin sister Jenee who is also a member of TCOP’s class of 2027. The two have been together for most of their academic careers, including earning bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees from the University of Albany together. Regine attributes their academic drive to their parents, especially their father who was active in the US Civil Rights movement in the 1960s. “Our parents always said focus on school because they didn’t have the opportunities we did.” said Regine. After finishing her master’s degree in public health, Regine worked as a biotech production specialist for Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. (Regeneron’s founder Leonard S. Schleifer, M.D., Ph.D. was the keynote speaker during Touro’s 2019 commencement ceremony.) “I knew about becoming an MD or a DO, but I didn’t know about the options you can have with a pharmacy degree,” said Regine who credits Dean Fuchs with opening her eyes about the profession.

"I can work in a hospital with patients.” The two sisters are the first members of their family to attend higher education. “I wanted a route to help people and be there for minorities who have similar backgrounds to us,” Regine said about her goals.
