An Evening for the Preceptors
Touro College of Pharmacy held its annual Preceptor Development Workshop in conjunction with the Evening of Appreciation.
Approximately sixty pharmacy preceptors arrived at the Touro College of Pharmacy this past week for an Evening of Appreciation and Preceptor Development Workshop. After some light dinner, student volunteers—under the leadership of the SGA (Student Government Association)—met with their preceptors and thanked them for all their dedication in a short appreciation video.
Peter Hoang, P3, was effusive in his thanks to preceptor Dr. Rebecca Salbu, who supervised him in his internal medicine rotation at Mount Sinai Hospital.
"I consider myself one of the luckiest students to have learned under Dr. Salbu's mentorship," said Hoang. "While the rotation is very challenging, Dr. Salbu went above and beyond to teach you throughout the whole process. Additionally, she provided so many learning opportunities, such as topic discussions, drug information questions, student presentations, and weekly pharmacy residency presentations."
Peter first met Dr. Salbu when he served as the Class Liaison and Vice-President of Community Affairs for Touro's American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) student chapter. "One of the many reasons why I listed Mount Sinai Hospital as my number-one choice was because of how engaging she was as the faculty advisor for ASCP," he said.
The evening—which also doubled as an annual workshop required by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)—was also “an opportunity to update preceptors on TCOP curriculum development, policies and procedures, new initiatives, professional development, and rotation goals,” said Heidi Fuchs, Director of Recruitment and External Relations at TCOP.
