Teaching Certificate Program for PGY-1 and PGY-2 Residents and Fellows

Part of pharmacy practice is education. As a pharmacist you educate patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and the public. That’s why the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists designates the ability to effectively teach, educate, and disseminate knowledge as one of the four competency areas pharmacy residents should achieve during their residency training. Touro College of Pharmacy’s Teaching Certificate Program is designed to prepare residents and fellows to become effective educators both in academia and in clinical settings.

What you'll learn

Through on-campus, interactive seminars, activities and reading assignments, and hands-on teaching opportunities in the classroom and lab you will learn the roles and skills needed for a pharmacist in academia, as well as hone your teaching skills and learn how to be an effective educator in the clinical and academic setting.

Certificate Requirements

In order to receive your Touro College of Pharmacy teaching certificate you will need fulfill these requirements:

  1. Attend and participate in interactive monthly seminars
  2. Design a brief autobiography describing yourself and your accomplishments
  3. Create an individual teaching philosophy
  4. Develop a teaching portfolio
  5. Complete 3 hours of large group teaching activities
  6. Complete 10 hours of small group teaching at Touro College of Pharmacy
  7. Participate in a debate on areas of controversy in academia
